Hello.

I'm Nick.

Over the past 15 years, I have been fortunate enough to gain some amazing experience in the accounting and finance fields.  I might have ping ponged a bit to get here but life has a unique way of reminding you where your strengths and passions lie, even when you try to suppress them.

I attended Santa Clara University in 2007 and received my Bachelors of Science in Finance in 2011.  Almost a decade later, I obtained my Masters of Science in Accounting from California State University of Sacramento in 2020. I am also actively pursuing my CPA Licensure with a concentration in Tax Compliance & Planning and hope to have that completed in 2025.

I started my career in San Francisco, working at a boutique portfolio management firm that managed Investment Portfolios for ultra high net worth individuals, families and institutions.  

After many late nights at the office, lots of coffee, an abundance of professional and personal growth, I decided it was time to try something new.  

I left the Investment world in 2014 to join the Finance team at a large international corporation in Sacramento, my hometown. There, I managed the financial operations, accounting and strategy objectives for over +70 locations across the country throughout the Midwest, Texas and Puerto Rico.  I learned so much about how to effectively run a business, drive profitability with good strategy, prepare, review and reconcile the books for month end and more importantly, how to think outside the box to drive results.  

After 3 years, I realized I missed the human aspect of the my prior  job in a client service role and found an opportunity that allowed me to marry my love for the human element of our work with accounting and financial management at a Multi-Family office .  My team provided outsourced CFO and accounting services to multi-generational families across a broad spectrum of matters. 

My career has taken me down many roads across both accounting and finance professions that school would have never taken me.

I'm a firm believer that my profession is more Earth than science.  The core of which is to be a great partner and build great relationships with the people I work for and with.

I started Claran Consulting as an extension of these experiences to fill a void I see in the local business landscape - lack of access to experienced professionals who can help entrepreneurs, founders and small business owners make sense of the numbers and thoughtfully help them plan for their future in a proactive manner.
